What is Floortime™ / Play Therapy
DIR®/Floortime™(Developmental, Individual-differences, Relationship-based) is a developmental intervention model developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan and Dr. Serena Weider. It centers the child’s unique interests, strengths, and challenges and uses the power of relationships and personal connections to aid in healthy social and emotional development.
Greenspan and Wieder have identified the following as key milestones to learning and development achievable through DIR®/Floortime™
Self-regulation and interest in the world
Intimacy, or engagement in relationships
Purposeful two-way communication
Complex communication and shared problem solving
Using symbols and creating emotional ideas
Logical thinking and building bridges between ideas
