Clay Johnson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #107668) based in Los Angeles, CA. He has more than 20 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families.
Before transitioning into the mental health field, Clay spent seven years as an elementary school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. As a Developmental Play Therapist & Psychotherapist, he is well known within the DIR®/Floortime™ community and has collaborated with some of the most influential DIR® leaders.
Clay has been working with Autism and related disorders for over 15 years. He has trained new therapists, supervised, mentored, advocated for school IEPs and family services, worked closely with Regional Centers, written assessments, progress reports, and overseen or conducted sessions for hundreds of clients and families.
During his career, Clay has worked alongside Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Music Therapists, Behaviorists, Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, Developmental Pediaticians and has studied the principles of Neuroscience and Applied Behavioral Analysis. He uses a holistic and multi-eclectic approach that borrows from each of these disciplines while placing a special emphasis on the power of play. He takes pride in his and his staff’s ability to meet clients where they are and guide them toward their overall well-being and optimal development.
Clay holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a Music minor, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, is DIR® certified and is a state licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.
